Northwest architecture is often associated with rural, get-away type dwellings; unfortunately the idea of a dwelling set within nature brings quite a bit of baggage to the design table. While the northwest is one of the most recent explorations on the map, and lacks a history (comparatively), we still find the proliferation of log cabins and faux Cape Cod cottages here. Today’s blog, on this crisp November 1st morning, focuses on several rural projects: cabins, retreats, ski-lodges, call them what you like. These projects are great examples of thinking, designing and building rural dwellings in our present time with current materials and methods.

Pingback by friday architecture roundup at materialicious November 2, 2007 @ 2:05 pmwow — I love these cabins — Living in a log home myself i just dont really think of cabins as you have presented them. Im intrigued by the Marquand Retreat, WA — but all of them are absolutely beautiful. Clean lines and elegant.
